The upcoming town Limerick, Pennsylvania has firmly
asserted that it sees no need to bring slot machines to this growing town.
Though a huge slot machine and casino operator approached the Limerick City
Council with the proposition to bring the slot machines, the council
unanimously agreed that there was no need for slots in Limerick.
The city’s rejection of Boyd Gaming Corp caused Boyd to withdraw its
application for one of the two non racetrack and hotel related slot machine
licenses. And now that suburban Pennsylvania town is no longer a slots
contender, it’s looking more likely that the Pocono Mountains, Gettysburg or
possibly Lehigh Valley will be awarded slot machine licenses.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board carefully examines each application
specifically looking at what areas the slot machines will give the most
benefits. The board often favors areas in need of increased traffic flow and
economic revitalization-both are areas Limerick does not have problems with.
