Ohio's Learn and Earn Makes Head-Way

The Learn and Earn Campaign has now officially made it onto the November 7th ballot in Ohio. This campaign basically supports brining slot machines to specific locations within Ohio to raise money for student scholarships. Ohio is currently one of the few states without this type of “slot machines for education” deal—and the backers of Learn and Earn believe that voters are ready to vote to add slot machines with a little knowledge.

The Learn and Earn Campaign experienced some setbacks in gaining enough signatures to make the ballot, but now, after the last batch of signatures turned in, the slot machines proposal is officially on the ballot. Now the focus is on educating voters as to the benefits of in bringing slot machines—and the financial backers for marketing the campaign are basically those who will benefit greatly from the slot machine addition—the racetracks.

In the proposal, the slot machines locations will be written into the Ohio Constitution—this will ensure that slot machines do not become too widespread. But despite this precaution, both the governor candidates are against the slot machine proposal citing the reasoning that an increase in gambling and slot machines will only lead to an increase in crime.
