Supporters of the proposal to add more slot machines to
existing racetracks in Ohio are recovering from initial setbacks. The slot
machine proposal lacked enough valid signatures initially to make it onto
the ballot; the campaign recovered from this setback however, when they
turned in over 30,000 more names than necessary.
The slot machine campaign is fairly positive that they now have enough names
to get the proposal onto the ballot—so confidant that they have even already
started their slot machine proposal television campaign.
One selling point of the campaigns lies in the additional education funding.
Like other states, gambling and slot machines will be used to provide
students with financial aid for college.
Once the second round of signatures are verified, and the proposal added to
the ballot, voters will have to weigh the potential benefits and backlashes
of increasing slot machines in cities. Approval of the proposal means slot
machines will be added to seven racetracks in Ohio, in addition to two other
non racetrack locations.
