Liquor Licenses Differ for Casinos

Legislative committees in Pennsylvania will look into adding new codes to the liquor licensing laws, in addition to rewriting sections of the law that allows slot machine operation in the state. Currently local bars and taverns and the slot machine casinos fall under the same legislation even though casinos operate entirely differently.

But the legislation gets complicated when targeting the 14 slot machine casinos as a whole. Seven of the 14 locations able to operate slot machines are also horse racing tracks—this makes them ineligible to give away free drinks to patrons.

And in addition to that complication, there will have to be specific provisions for the slot machine casinos that will be serving alcohol 24 hours a day—unlike bars and taverns which can only serve until 2 am.

Basically, the Liquor Control Board has a lot to take into consideration since the addition of slot machine casinos in 2004—and it looks like these issues will finally be resolved in early 2004.
