Gaming Lounges Get Reclassification

For almost a year now, gaming lounges are classified according to the number of slot machines in the lounge. Gaming lounges now must have at least 20 slot machines in order to even be considered a lounge. Gaming lounges—and the slot machines in particular because of the high payout ratio, have so far become the largest source of revenue for residents of Jamaica.

In addition to naming 18 official gaming lounges, another development is the revenue regulations on the gambling and slot machine industry. Before, the Betting Gaming and Lotteries Act prohibited the industry from monitoring sales and revenues—now however, it is a long term goal.

Not to be left out from the gaming lounges however, new players have entered the business—some of the big contenders are building state-of –the-art multi-million dollar facilities. Many of the new facilities will have all of the same trappings as Las Vegas Casinos—restaurants, shopping, and thousands of slot machines.
