It is a happy day in Mississippi – area casinos are
finally up and rolling. This means two things, one of which means casino
employees can now return to work. The second is that money will soon start
pouring into an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina once again.
Casino employees can now spend their days working and earning a living,
instead of trying to find housing and not even knowing how they will pay for
it once they find it. With steady incomes back in hand, things are going to
start looking a lot brighter for the local families. The remaining problem
is how to find affordable housing. That which was not destroyed is now at a
premium – high demand, low inventory. Many of the casinos have already
increased their employees’ salaries as an attempt to help, but there is
still much to be done.
The Beau Rivage has been completely refurbished, and is considering starting
to build housing for their thousands of employees that will need a place to
live. The Boomtown Slot Machine gambling barge has increased their
employees’ salaries 20 percent, in an attempt to help employees obtain
livable housing.
