Since the slot machine business has gotten started in
Pennsylvania, there have been all kinds of trouble with the process. The
Senate is now proposing a bill to the House of Representatives and the
Governor to try and eliminate some of that confusion. They want to get rid
of a provision that gets rid of one of the steps of getting a slot machine
in the state.
The Gaming Control Board would like to remove the middle man part of the
process in slot machine distribution. It was there initially to stop fraud,
but it seems to be causing more trouble than good. They are currently
reviewing the process, but think that perhaps it might add to more revenue
for the state. The Governor has pretty much already signed on, and it is
obvious that he is just waiting for the Gaming Board to make up their mind.
Senator Fumo has added an additional provision into the bill though that
makes people wonder what he is up to. The new section cuts operators shares
down to 44% from the previous 48%.
