A recent proposal in Ohio would allow for gambling to
funnel money into a state sponsored college fund. The proposal is obviously
coming under fire as opponents say this will enable gamblers with addictions
to have easy access to gaming and slot machines. The proposal has added
Cincinnati on the list, as well as seven other areas throughout Ohio
receiving the slot machines, of which there will be roughly 35,000+ added
into the state.
With an all or nothing attitude, it could end up being a problem with the
addition of Cincinnati. The existing horse tracks, that already exist, would
be the site of the gaming and slot machines. However, the Cincinnati voters
do not want the addition. The supporters are tasked with the job of getting
more than 200 necessary signatures to pass the initiative. Then if that
passes, they then have to get 323,000 signatures from voters throughout the
state. If accepted, the plan will funnel in somewhere between $700 million
and $1 billion into much needed state college funding.
If Cincinnati chooses not to add the gaming and slot machines, it could end
up with none of the machines added. With them being one of the major centers
of Ohio, it just doesn’t make sense to add them everywhere but there. But
the opposition still feels that this is just too close for comfort for all
of these proposed slot machines.
