| Pokagaon Indians Get Their Four Winds Slots Casino |
|---|
Scheduled to open in the summer of 2007, the Pokagon Band Indians' Four Winds Casino Resort officially broke ground on construction earlier this week. In what was a ceremonial and spiritual event for the Pokagon Band, the Pokagon tribal council visited the site to celebrate the direct results of having been given land back that was lost to the U.S. government several years back. Six-hundred and seventy-five acres of land was given back to the Pokagon Band to be exact. Of that, the Four Winds Casino Resort will take up approximately fifty acres. The casino itself will provide for 130,000 square feet, of which, 3,000 slot machines, ninety table games and twenty poker tables will help to fill. In addition to gaming amenities, the resort portion of Four Winds will provide three bars, six restaurants, a day-care center for children, outdoor spa, and a hotel complex with 164 guest rooms. The Pokagon Indians are expecting to attract over four million visitors to the casino resort each year, and bring in at least $250 million to the first year up and running. Of the casinos annual revenue, which will primarily be generated by slot machines, 10% will be divided between state and local government agencies. This will strictly come from earnings made on slot machines, while all remaining profits will go to providing health care and economic development to the Pokagon tribe. The Four Winds Casino resort is located near the Indiana-Michigan state line, and will become the first casino to cater to the Northwest Indiana casino gambling market. Midwest slot machines will surely be the favorite amongst the visitors from nearby Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Nearly 2,000 casino employees will be needed to run and maintain the gambling destination when it is complete. |
