| Slots Seized - Lottery Licenses Suspended |
|---|
More cases of seized slot machines are showing up all around the world. Not only in the U.S. - where a recent bust in California made headlines - is the illegal trade and operation of underground slot machines taking place. Japan recently served as the stage for a large police crackdown and bust of an illegal gambling den partaking in all forms of betting, including the operation of betting machines. As for the U.S., the latest busts to go down took place in Springfield, Holyoke and Chicopee, where four different businesses were suspended of their lottery licenses for allegedly operating video slot machines on their premises. Thirty-eight slot machines total were confiscated by state police from four locations that included bars, restaurants and shopping markets. As of yet, no charges were being filed by the business owners, with only the lottery license suspensions remaining indefinitely in effect. While it is state law that no business shall operate gambling devices that exchange money with players, these particular machines are supposedly for entertainment purposes only. And although some of the machines were not found containing any money, it is suspected that players will cash out with the bartender or business owner when finished playing the machine. Some of the seized slot machines were found containing approximately $10,000. |
