Ohio Race Track Slot Machines Legislation Criticized

US state lawmakers in Ohio are on a quest to get more slot machines within state borders.  However, there are currently two proposals sitting at the desk of Ohio Attorney General, Jim Petro.  One of these proposals simply wants to get slot machines into Ohio's racetracks, while the other proposal, called Learn and Earn, calls for much more.

The current proposal summary of Learn and Earn is being reviewed by Petro, which now might receive further review, considering a group opposed to casino gambling in Ohio has written a letter to Petro, claiming the proposal summary is inaccurate and does not clarify the finer points of the proposal.  Before either bill is forwarded to the Secretary of State, Petro must certify the proposal summaries are in good standing.  Whether the challenge by anti-gamblers has an impact or not, will be known shortly.

In the meantime, legislators of the bill that is pushing for slot machines in Ohio racetracks are urging the Learn and Earn backers to abandon the bill and join their own.  Many feel that Learn and Earn is trying to get too much accomplished at one time, and that it is not realistic to expect the legislation to get approved by the House of Representatives.  Especially since slot legislators in the state of Massachusetts received a whopping 110-55 defeat in the Mass. House of Representatives to get slots into four race tracks, many are being careful as to how far to push the legalization of slot machines.
