No More Slot Machines for Moscow

As most Russians know, President Vladimir Putin is no fan of slot machines—and now it seems his feelings have turned into actions as Putin has finally signed the bill he was pushing for that will eliminate the majority of slot machines parlors in and around Moscow within the next two years.

Many have been anticipating Putin’s anti-slot machines bill that will make gambling a destination activity rather than an every day activity citizens can do without traveling very far from home. The slot machines are being moved to four locations: Kaliningrad, Siberia, Krasnodar, and Primorsky. These locations are remote, and Putin theorizes that by removing the slot machines from right under their noses, the citizens will have less gambling addictions.

For most though this is no shocking surprise. Putin has never hidden his agenda against slot machines—and both the houses of parliament agreed with Putin’s theory, passing the bill through both with little issue. Then it was merely a matter of Putin’s signature, and the bill has now passed, and gambling as it was known in Russia has now changed for the better.
