Florida has one more casino now operating Class III
slot machines in the state. The Mardi Gras Casino in Broward County has
finally managed to open its doors to business, and some are saying ‘bring on
the slot machines at last,’ while others are still leery about how the slot
machines will affect the community and county.
The Vegas-style slot machines are not the first slots to open in the
county—but it will become one of the larger casinos in the state. Though it
took a second test from the gaming officials to legalize them to begin
operating the machines, they are now open and expanding. When the casino is
at full capacity, there will be roughly 1,200 slot machines operating—and to
staff that many slot machines, the casino has plans to hire 150 more
employees (currently has 850) as the casino brings in more of the slots.
There is no doubt though that the slot machines will bring in money. The
Mardi Gras’ grand opening last month saw a modest crowd there to welcome in
the slot machines. Which bodes well for having a steady stream of locals and
tourists alike making use of the casino. The state of Florida is
anticipating that the four planned casinos in Broward County ill bring in
$200 million in revenue—and this money will definitely help the state’s
finances.
