Indiana May Bring in More Slot Machines

Some slot machines opponents are ready to call it quits on the slot machines—the state already has slot machines in operation, why do proponents keep pushing for more? Right now Indiana seems to be in a delicate balance—the residents are not bombarded with slot machines and casinos everywhere they turn, yet the state still gets the benefit of revenue from the slot machines at the French Lick Casino.

But now some residents say enough is enough. Current House Bill 1441 proposes making slot machines even more accessible fore residents. Currently, the French Lick Casino is more of a destination gambling facility; if you want to play the slot machines, you have to actually plan a trip to the casino rather than hop in your car, gamble, and still make it home in time for dinner. But the new Bill would alter the way residents access gambling.

Details of the Bill include: legalizing slot machines at two Indiana racetracks (in both Shelby and Madison Counties) and then more slot machines more prominent tracks: Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs. Then an additional part of the bill (supposedly aimed at further supporting the horse racing industry) proposes to supplement income at two main betting parlors in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis with slot machines. Basically, the Bill proposes to support both the horse racing industry and the state with hundreds of slot machines in many of Indiana’s major cities.

So needless to say, those who were opposed with even allowing the slot machines at French Lick are not pleased with the prospect of slot machines integrating into the cities and counties across the state.
