Chester Needs the Slot Machines

In Chester, PA, the opening of a casino is fantastic news—the town is definitely welcoming the slot machines with open arms. Like many towns across the United States, the promise of slot machines means hundreds of new jobs, often more tourism and much needed revenue. Chester is no exception. Before Harrah’s Chester was approved by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board they lacked the financial support in the town to turn-around the problems with low employment rates.

Now with the building of the permanent facility, the town has additional construction jobs, and once the slot machines are fully operating, there will be an even larger demand for both skilled and unskilled labor in the town. Additionally, the local business and the minorities and the town find the slot machines a very promising opportunity.

As a part of the deal, the slot machines casino promised to hire minorities to help run the casino and slot machines—an so far it looks as though Harrah’s has every intention of following through with that promise. Already Harrah’s has hosted five job fares seeking future employees in addition to donating $500,000 to the Chester Workforce Development Center in the form of a grant.

Now that the slot machines are definitely coming to Chester, this small town can look forward to a huge boost in their yearly revenue—it is predicted that the slot machines will bring in ¼ of the town’s total revenue.
