The Gulfstream Park racino is discovering just how hard
it can be to balance the horse racing with the new addition of slot
machines. The slot machines were brought in partly to help the racetracks
stay in business and increase the quality of the racetrack. Now though,
racing fans are skeptical about the expansions happening at the racino and
the influx of even more slot machines.
Last December the horse racing fans, and even Gulfstream Park, thought that
the winter race could possibly bring more business to the racino than the
slot machines for the first time since the slot machines opened.
That however, wasn’t the case. And now that it is evident that the facility
is changing its focus from the horse and racing to the slot machines. When
patrons look at the new additions to the facility they seem more and more
accommodations for the slot machines players, and far less focus on the
racing.
Gulfstream Park is still a growing casino, so though some racing fans are
already voicing concerns about the changes, the racino still plans to add
700 more slot machines in the coming months. It appears as though Gulfstream
Park still has some kinks to work out in their balancing act. The slot
machines are supposed to support the community and the racetrack, not
eclipse the previous purpose for the facility: racing.
