Who Won the Slot Machine Licenses

Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board awarded the last of the slot machine licenses last month. These are the breakdowns but are subject to change if any of the appeals go through. Naturally, some of the applicants who did not win the slot machines licenses feel the Board should reconsider. See below for the specific details on each of the awarded slots licenses.

Bethlehem: Slots license awarded to: Sands Bethworks Casino.
   Opening: Planned for mid-2008
   Number of slot machines: 3,000 slot machines
   Location: Previously Bethlehem Steep Corp.
   Investors: Las Vegas Sands Corp.
   Other casinos: Operates other slot machines casinos in Macau, Singapore, and Las Vegas

Pocono Mountains: Slots license awarded to: Mount Airy Resort and Casino
   Opening: Planned for late 2007
   Number of slot machines: 2,500 slot machines
   Location: Mount Pocono, at the previous location of the Mount Airy Lodge
   Investors: Louis DeNaples (Notably, he is the only investor in the slot machines casino)

Pittsburgh: Slots license awarded to: Majestic Star Casino
   Opening: Planned for March, 2008
   Number of slot machines: Unknown number of slot machines
   Location: Pittsburgh’s North Shore
   Investors: Don H. Barden (Notably, he is the only listed investor in the slot machines casino.

Philadelphia: Slots license awarded to: Foxwoods Casino Philadelphia
   Opening: Planned for late 2008
   Number of slot machines: 3,000 slot machines
   Location: Bank of the Delaware River
   Investors: The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation—they run the Foxwoods Casino Resort located in
      Connecticut

Philadelphia: Slots license awarded to: SugarHouse Casino
   Opening: Planned for April, 2008
   Number of slot machines: 1,500 slot machines to be increased to 3,000 slots within nine months
   Investors: Neil Bluhm
