The Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Agency
knows a good deal when they see one, and adding slot machines to the
existing 516 slot machines in operation at Gulfstream Park will only add to
the profits for the racetrack and for the state of Florida. The plan is to
add 700 slot machines to the facility and have the slots up and running as
soon as possible this year.
Gulfstream definitely makes out well because of the partnership. This
partnership will also add much more revenue to the casino because of the
increase in the slot machines. The percentages of revenue negotiated for the
first 516 slot machines still remains the same for the new 700 machines.
This could be just the first of the expansions for Gulfstream Park—with the
additional slot machines, they are still not going to be at their maximum
capacity of 1,500 slot machines (the most the state of Florida will allow at
any gambling facility in the state).
Overall this partnership helps everyone out: the casino gets more players
(and they bring money into every part of the casino), the higher purses for
the races means the racetrack can afford better horses and be more
competitive nationally, and the state has no objections because they too get
a part of the revenue from the slot machines.
