Slot Machines Affect Pa. Representative

The Pennsylvania Gaming and Control Board is responsible for awarding the slot machines licenses in the state among other duties relating to monitoring the slot machines. So for State Representative Mark McNaughton, the allegations that he plays the slot machines with Boyd Gaming in Atlantic City could negatively affect his application to sit on the state’s Gaming board.

The issue they have doesn’t concern the fact that he plays slot machines, it doesn’t even focus on the fact that McNaughton’s voting record in Pennsylvania has been in direct opposition to legalizing slot machines in Pa. Instead the Gaming Board is concerned that McNaughton lied on his ethics forms submitted in his application; he was not completely honest with the board when reporting his slot machines winnings. And on top of that, his involvement with Boyd Gaming (a contender for one of the slot machines licenses) could mean a conflict of interest for McNaughton.

But McNaughton has an explanation for why he enjoys the slot machines but has voted against them at every given chance: he voted as his constituents wanted. And he says that just because he enjoys the slot machines it does not mean that he thinks that the slot machines should be available to play in every state, and easily accessible to every citizen. He believes that the slot machines should remain a destination perk, so that gamers have to travel to places like Atlantic City and Las Vegas to play the slot machines.
