Slot Machines Help the Races

There is no doubt in the horse racing industry that the addition of slot machines to any racetrack will greatly increase the quality of the track. When state’s legalize slot machines at racetracks, immediately the racetracks are bringing in millions more in income—and part of that goes toward bettering the track, the horses, and the race purses. Now that Pennsylvania is starting to bring in more and more slot machines at their racetracks, New Jersey racetracks are worried that they will soon not even be able to compete with the purses and horses at tracks in Pennsylvania.

Currently, New Jersey has legalized slot machines in the state. Unfortunately for the racetracks though, the slot machines are only legal in Atlantic City. This means that the racetracks do not receive portions of the slot machines revenue like the racetracks in Pennsylvania.

And sadly for New Jersey, the latest yearling auction only highlighted the changes occurring between NJ and PA. Though NJ maintained its standing as a state with top breeding stallions, many are expecting this title to shift in the coming years as Pennsylvania grows its horse racing industry.
