Pittsburgh's Getting Slot Machines

It’s good news for PITG Gaming, they have won the right to operate slot machines in Pittsburgh. As the year drew to a close, the Pennsylvania Gaming and Control Board made a unanimous decision to grant the Pittsburgh license to PITG. Now the slot machines are on their way—and even better for sports fanatics, the slot machines will partly fund a new arena for the Penguins.

The new slot machines casino is planned for the North Shore, which is conveniently located close to two of their sports teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pirates. But some are asking what about the Penguins. Though PITG plans to put $7.5 million a year of slot machines revenue toward the arena for the Penguins, the Penguins were really hoping that the Isle of Capri Casino would have won the slot machines license—they were willing to put up $290 million up front for a new arena. Now many are concerned that the Penguins may leave the state for greener pastures—to a city willing to invest in the team with a workable arena.

As for the new casino and slot machines, Don Barden, owner of PITG Gaming, is ready to get the gaming casino started and has plans to meet with the Executive of Allegheny County and Pittsbugh’s Mayor. Barden had the following to say about the arena, and the slot machines and gaming casino. ""I am committed to what we said we were going to do. We're going to fund $7.5 million a year for 30 years towards financing a new multipurpose arena.” And as for the slot machines casino, “ It will be the largest of our operations and we're going to put a lot of attention on this project. We're going to get it going right away."
