It’s no secret in the slot machines industry that
Pennsylvania now has slot machines up and running. Many states like
Pennsylvania and Florida went so far as to legalize slot machines at
racetracks, and Pa. will have a couple of stand-alone casinos as well. But
the just because the licenses are for stand-alone casinos, all they can
offer for gaming is slot machines. Florida though is unlike Pennsylvania, in
that citizens in Florida are content with the slot machines, but in
Pennsylvania, many residents and slots operators are wondering when the
table games are coming?
But even though some citizens and casino/slot machines owners believe the
table games are the next step for the Pennsylvania, the Governor has said a
firm “no” to the addition of table gaming. He put to rest many of the rumors
that legislation would go through passing the table gaming in addition to
the slot machines.
Right now Governor Rendell fells that the state should first monitor and
evaluate the effect the slot machines have on the state before they even
consider bringing in more gambling.
Says Governor Rendell, "We have to make sure that over time, the expansion
of gaming is successful, it works well, and whatever negative sides there
are to [the slot machines], that we control them.” He elaborated, "[U]ntil
we've had a significant test period to see that in operation, I don't think
any of these bills should be considered and I wouldn't sign them."
That seems to be a pretty firm “no” to the table gaming rumors and should
squash and further action until more information has been gathered on some
of the first parlors to operate slot machines begin giving feedback.
