Nevada Says You Need More Slot Machines

The Taverns Owners Association is strongly opposed to the limitations in Nevada’s Clean Indoor Air Act—they feel they are being discriminated against because of the number of slot machines they operate. They have taken up their argument with the Nevada Resort Association, but were then turned down because the Resort Association does not feel that they deserve equal protection just because they operate slot machines.

According to the new act, bars operating fewer than 15 slot machines (which means you have a restricted slot machine license) can no longer allow smoking in their establishments. But the casinos and establishments operating more than 15 slot machines are still allowed to offer guest the option to smoke inside.

Then the Taverns Association further feels discriminated against because the casinos serve food, yet they are still allowed to bypass the no-smoking inside rule. According to arguments coming from the bar owners, this latest Act only serves to strengthen the slot machines at casinos and weaken bar owners’ attempt to bring in gambling patrons. Now the smokers will just head to the casinos rather than their local tavern. But they are not specifically targeting the casinos and hotels and other establishments exempt from the Act—their stance is more about solving the inequality issue.
