Many gamblers do not quite understand how the Internet
Gambling Protection Act will affect their online gaming. And basically if an
American wants to gamble online, there is no way that the U.S. government
can completely stop this practice. The Act does not specifically target
gaming online (video slot machines and other types of gaming), rather the
new legislation targets payments the gaming Web sites can accept.
But before American consumers get up-in-arms about the limit on online
gaming and slot machines for Americans, it is important to note that the
majority of online gaming sites are located outside of the jurisdiction of
the United States. What that means is that as long as the online slot
machines are outside of U.S., Americans can still enjoy online gaming.
So basically, this new Act (H.R. 4777) only means that companies within the
jurisdiction of the U.S. cannot offer online gaming—now many companies are
just considering moving their business outside of the U.S. or else they will
have to change their online offerings.
