There is no doubt about it, playing the slot machines
and the table games have some definite perks, perhaps this is why so many go
to the casinos. In Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and other gambling and slot
machines mecca’s, when you spend money at the casinos, they are more than
willing to reward you with free drinks and alcohol. Now Pennsylvania is
joining the ranks of states that reward their slot machines gamblers. The
law in Pennsylvania now will allow the casinos to serve free alcohol to
their slot machines players, in addition to the table gamers.
But before residents get too excited about the free drinks, the Pennsylvania
casinos want residents and patrons to understand two things. First off, the
law states that the casinos may serve the drinks if they so choose, not that
they have to give free drinks to the patrons. And two, the reason some
casinos may not give away the free drinks to every slot machines player is
simple: Pennsylvania has much higher taxes on the slot machines than other
states. Cities like Las Vegas and Atlantic City have fewer taxes, and they
draw a large portion of out-of-towners there for vacationing and gambling.
Bob Oltmanns, a spokesman for PITG Gaming LLC, had this to say about the
slot machines in Pennsylvania: "Don't fall into the trap of comparing this
market to Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Pittsburgh is not going to be that,
with people coming from all over the country. ... It's not at all
unreasonable to expect there will be comp services for our more frequent
players here, but what that's going to be, I don't know."
