For some if might never cross their mind to go to a
casino on a national holiday—for others though the slot machines casino was
the perfect place to spend their Thanksgiving. Not only did the players get
to feast on a turkey dinner buffet replete with all the traditional
trappings of the holiday, they also had the opportunity to engage in either
slot machines or betting on the races.
But for all those who may be concerned about the horses on Thanksgiving
Day—don’t worry, they were given the day off. Patrons were able to watch
other races on the television sets and make their bets—part of the fun is
that they can even make the bets right from their dining room table.
The Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway was one of these locations of
interest for many just not wanting to cook dinner for themselves. At the
dining room in the racino, the Empire City Terrace Resort, a complete
Thanksgiving dinner would only run you about $22 dollars—which is not a bad
deal if you consider the time it takes to make the feast yourself. According
to the restaurant hostess, the guests were pretty pleased with the buffet,
Vaunesha Cole remarked, "I had one lady say to me that this was the first
time in 40 years she didn't have to cook Thanksgiving dinner.”
And though the racino is still fairly new, (only a month old) it was
operating with steady business even on the holiday. The casino was
constructed for $240 million, and there is no doubt that the casino will
make up that initial expenditure in the long run as the racino is already
bringing in the expected amount of guest, it is on target for where it needs
to be in terms of slot machines revenue.
