TouchSense slot machines could very well be the new
wave in technology that enables slot machines to record and give feedback on
the player as they are playing the slot machines. This technology is owned
by a partnership between Unicum and 3M United Kingdom; together they will
handle all ends of the development and distribution of TouchSense slot
machines.
Unicum specializes in slot machines so they have been handling the
development of the slots and they have definitely been letting everyone know
that the new technology is on its way—their ideas were present at the G2E
2006. The other end of the partnership is the manufacturing, and that’s
where 3M TouchSystems takes over the manufacturing of the slot machines.
Peter Moffitt, the Vice President of Gaming at Unicum comments that the
partnership is the culmination of discussions for a while now about how the
two companies could work together. “We have been aware of TouchSense
technology for over a year and in November 2005 entered discussions with 3M
to see how we might work together, in conjunction with their new
relationship with Immersion Corporation. The technology has enormous
potential for adding an entirely new dimension for the player…a physical
response to the interaction.”
Part of what makes these new slot machines so special is their ability to
hook the player even more than before. With the capability to record the
players responses, the developers and manufacturers can then use the
feedback to enhance the players gaming experience and tailor the slot
machines to their needs.
