Foxwoods Slot Machines Expand

Pennsylvania has only two slot machines licenses left, and the Foxwoods development Co. is vying for one of the two coveted licenses that will allow the operation of a full-size slot machines casino in the state. Many though are not quite certain that the Foxwoods Development Co. would be the most beneficial company for Pennsylvania considering their current casino. There are five companies vying for the two licenses left to be awarded on December 20th—so many residents hope that the Gaming Control Board grants slot machine capabilities to two of the companies with smaller plans for their casinos.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation operates the Foxwoods Development Co. which is responsible for developing the largest slot machines and gaming casino in the world. Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut is a palace of slot machines, and according to the development company, it is the first of several “palaces” they plan to open across the United States. Their current plans include opening a $560 million super casino on the Delaware riverfront in Philadelphia if they are awarded on of the remaining licenses.

Residents though aren’t sure that a super casino is the most beneficial of the proposed projects—residents are leery about the effect a slot machines casino of that would have on South Philly.

Foxwoods Development Co. though is confident that this is a positive strategic move for them. Says Foxwoods CEO William Sherlock, ''It's certainly the next step for this tribe. Philadelphia could be that first step for a plethora of projects throughout the United States.”
