Slot Machines Attract the Locals Too

There is no doubt that Las Vegas—mainly the Vegas strip, is still one of the largest centers for slot machine gaming, and most other forms of gambling, in the world. But with the recent decrease in gaming revenue on the Vegas strip, it looks like Macau might not have as difficult time as they thought catching up with the slot machine revenue generated in Las Vegas. This year Nevada’s slot machine revenue was still at normal levels, but not entirely thanks to the strip—instead it seems that the slot machines in North Las Vegas are steadily increasing their revenue thanks to the locals.

The Las Vegas strip still has more of the glitz, glamour, and flashy lights than North Las Vegas—but in terms of slot machines and amenities, North Las Vegas’ offerings are surprisingly similar. And it does seem that many are figuring that out—the slot machines and gambling revenues increased significantly in the past year whereas the slots and gaming revenue from the Strip are on a two-month downswing. For the second month now, their revenues have decreased.

The state has no reason to be alarmed though because the increase in North Vegas slots revenue seems to balance out the decrease the Strip is experiencing. Some of the North Las Vegas counties and cities making up for the Strip’s decrease attribute the increase in revenue largely to the locals playing the slot machines. For example, some of the double digit increases in slots revenue include: Clark County—up 18.2 percent, Boulder Strip—up 12.4 percent, and others were just below the 10 percent mark.
