Values Voters at the Polls

Ohio’s Learn and Earn campaign has tough competition in the Christian right in the imminent elections. On November 7th voters in Ohio will have to decide whether or not they want slot machines legalized in the state. The Learn and Earn campaign has bombarded voters with all of the positive effects slot machines will have on the state. The Christian right, however, is determined that slot machines do not get legalized. Even though the Republican Party has suffered a lot of scrutiny recently, the self termed “value voters” align with the Republicans as a way to ensure slot machines stay illegal in the state.

The two view points have though competition for votes though this time around. The Learn and Earn initiative has done well convincing voters that the scholarships and additional revenue from slot machines is essential to higher education in the state. The Christians though formed their own group to combat the Learn and Earn campaign. The Ohio Restoration Project and the Citizens for Community Values combat the positive slot machine advertising with information on the negativity slot machines would bring to the state.

The Ohio Restoration project doesn’t solely focus on slot machine legislation, they are a group dedicated to keeping Ohio safe from all forms of gambling--and slot machines just happen to be the focus with the Learn and Earn Initiative going to the polls in November.
