Governor Jeb Bush is no fan of slot machines, and
nothing makes that more apparent than his refusal to allow the Seminole
reservations to operated casino-style slot machines. According to the
federal government, the reservation has the right to operate slot machine
casinos—according to Governor Bush however the slot machines casino on the
reservation do not need to operate anything more than Bingo style slot
machines.
The Bingo slot machines allow casino patrons the ability to play against
each other—but both the slot machines patrons and the reservation want the
Class III Vegas type slot machines. Part of what is causing concern is the
fact that Broward County is opening a casino with Vegas style slot machines
next month, and by law the Seminole Indians should be able to operate the
same slot machines that are offered anywhere else in the state.
Now that Florida has delayed the Seminole tribe’s approval for operating the
slot machines, the tribe has the right to take the issue to the Department
of the Interior, and thus circumnavigate the state government that is now
giving them due process. Once the Department approves the slot machines, the
state has no power to stop the Seminoles form purchasing and operating the
slot machines. And if the reservation goes around the state, the state will
be the one hurt in the long run because the state will then have no claim to
a percentage of the slot machines revenue generated from that specific
reservation’s slot machine casinos. Sot machines
