The Slot Machines Breakdown

There is no doubt that slot machines have grown in the last twenty years—but when you look at the growth in terms of numbers, it is amazing just how much the slot machine industry has expanded. In the United States alone there are roughly 750,000 slot machines—compare that number with the 90,000 slot machines of 1985 its obvious that slot machines grow exponentially each year.

Then consider that new legislation in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and other states are voting to either bring slot machines to the state, or they are voting to increase the number of slot machines in operation within the state. Because of the laws governing the slot machines and gaming industry in the United States, each state has the ability to allow slot machines if they choose, and to control the amount of slot machines and the percentages of revenue that go directly to the state government.

So what is the draw of slot machines? Why are casinos so eager to increase the slot machines within their casino? It comes down to the simple fact that slot machines account for approximately 70% of the casino’s revenue. They are a HUGE moneymaker! And another benefit of slot machines is the amount of money the slot machines bring to the local and state governments. Because the states control the slot machines industry, the state, and the voters have control over the percentage the state receives of the slot machine revenue. This money is often used by the state to offset the gambling addictions, and any other negative effects the slot machines have on surrounding communities.
