Three companies want to bring slot machines to
Pittsburgh but it is still very unclear which company will win the coveted
slots license from the state Gaming Control Board. The Isle of Capri has
already made pretty extensive plans for what they will do with the slots
license, this even includes placing an upfront payment to hold their option
on land in Pittsburgh. The other two companies, Forest City and PITG Gaming,
also have begun planning receiving the licensing that would allow them to
operate slot machines in the city.
The Isle of Capri plans to open a temporary facility for up to two years
that will operate the slot machines while they build the casino. The planned
temporary facility will be at the Melody Tent site—basically the upper
garage at the Mellon Arena. The anticipate spending two years at the
temporary site, and for only $1.3 million a year in rent, that’s not a bad
deal for them.
The actual slot machines casino is planned for four sites on the Fifth Ave
and Colwell Street area. They are serious about having their slot machines
license approved, they have even paid $180,000 to the Pittsburgh Urban
Redevelopment Authority as a their upfront payment to secure their option on
the land.
There is still time though before it will be clear which company the
Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will pick to develop the slot machines in
Pittsburgh.
