Do Paper Slot Machines Detract?

Ask an avid slot machine player what the best sound in the world is, and you are likely to hear the response: “the sound of rain.” Does this mean that slot machine players like the sound of summer rainstorms? Not quite. In slot machine terminology, the “sound of rain” refers to the sound of coins falling out of a slot machine after a win or jackpot. But some slot machine enthusiasts are dismayed as paper slot machines make the “sound of rain” an obsolete concept.

Robert Brownstein, a slot machine enthusiasts states that beyond simply winning the jackpot, he plays to the slot machines for the visceral experience—so that he can actually hear, touch, etc the coins as they fall from the machine. So what does his gaming future look like? A survey of the trends in casinos around the United States shows that many casinos are rapidly switching all of their slot machines to coin-less, paper operated slot machines.

But for those concerned that the slot machines will be too difficult to operate in the future, the new slot machines are surprisingly easy to operate. All a slots player needs to do is insert the paper currency into the slot machine rather than inserting coins and tokens. Then, when the player is finished on the slot machine, any amount still left over is deposited onto a bar-coded card for the player to take to a different slot machine, or to the cashier.
