Rhode Island Says "No Thanks" to Slot Machines

Voters in Rhode Island made the choice to keep slot machines out of the state even though one of the big names in the slots industry was pursuing a slot machine casino in the state. Harrah’s Entertainment planned to partner with the Narragansett Tribe and to bring in more than just slot machines, Harrah’s had plans for a whole gambling resort and casino that could compete with the slot machines in Connecticut, specifically at the Mohegan Sun.

Now that Harrah’s has been firmly rejected from Rhode Island, it seems they may move their planned resort to the Catskills in New York—and Connecticut is breathing a sigh of relief. Basically, if Rhode Island had approved the slots, the Mohegan sun would have suffered from a significant decrease in casino and slot machines patrons. Currently the Mohegan Sun has a perfect location that allows it to boast a large portion of visitors from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York, and of course the many Connecticut citizens that patronize the casino. Without Rhode Island patrons, the Mohegan Sun then in turn makes less of the slot machines revenue.

Now the Mohegan Sun isn’t completely in the clear though—if Harrah’s moves to the Catskills, it will also affect the casino and slot machines patrons, however perhaps not to the same extent." slot machines
