Many states have been working on cracking down on
illegal slot machines operating in the state, so Illinois is by far not the
only state to find a huge underground of illegal slot machines activity.
Recently Colorado has made headlines for how their lack of regulatory
control led to illegal and damaged slot machines. State Police in Illinois
on the other and found illegal slot machines activities in Maple Park
specifically.
State Police originally suspected that Maple Park’s local chief of police
was involved in the illegal gambling, bookmaking, illegal slot machines and
spin-the-wheel lottery—but upon further investigation and several arrests of
others involved in the illegal activities, the police chief was acquitted of
all charges.
Michael Faber though was convicted of conspiracy to keep a gambling place,
conspiracy to commit gambling, and syndicated gambling—all which hold a
felony conviction with them. Faber is the manager of D.J.’s Tavern, and will
now be serving 24 months on probation, paying a fine of $500, and 100 hours
of community service.
Faber though got a relatively light sentence compared to some of the others
found guilty of felony gambling. Though no one received jail time for their
offenses, David Weeks, the bar owner, has 30 weeks probation and $30,000 in
fines related to the his felony count of conspiracy to commit gambling.
