Hurricanes Can't Stop the Slot Machines

Hurricane Rita may have caused damage to the Delta Downs slot machines casino, but that couldn’t keep them closed for long. Though the hurricane caused massive structural damage to the racetrack and casino, the slot machines are finally reopened after 19 months of reconstruction.

There have been some delays in the reopening of the slot machine racino as evidenced by the fat that the initial deadline for completing the reconstruction was last January. The project took nine months longer than originally planned—the racetrack opened November 1st.

The repairs on the slot machine racetrack aren’t chump change either; the slot machines conglomerate that owns the racino has spent millions, to the tune of $41 million in reconstruction costs.

According to a spokesman for the slot machines conglomerate, Rob Stillwell, the track is better now than it was before Hurricane Rita tore through it. Instead of merely reconstructing and repairing the slot machine racetrack with the same amenities as before, Boyd Gaming has added features to the racino. Stillwell said, “We are very excited about starting the Thoroughbred season after months of delay. The repairs we made were significant, primarily to the older parts of the track."

The racetrack was the one affected by the Hurricane the most—the slot machines area of the racetrack didn’t see nearly as much damage as the track. All throughout the reconstruction and repair of the track, the slot machines have been operating. The hurricane only set the slot machines casino back 43 days, it’s been operating ever since. slot machines
