The onslaught of new technology for the slot machines
is largely due to the trade show happening this week. The slot machines were
the stars of the show without a doubt and industry manufacturers like WMS
commenting “the products are the stars this year.”
Some of the new concepts that took center stage at the trade shows? Slot
machines with high concept technologies like: server-based technology,
community gaming, and sensory immersion. Part of what makes these new slot
machines so spectacular is the upgraded audio and video experience.
Additions like Bose speakers go a long way toward a whole gaming experience.
For some who play the progressive slot machines, the community and server
based concept doesn’t sound very different. But to the contrary, the server
based slot machines would allow the casino to control the slot machines at
times that they wanted to update software, or change the minimum bets. This
last possibility is a key selling feature for casino that could then raise
the bets during particularly busy times of the year or for special events.
And for community gaming, this is a huge hit so far. The basic concept is
this: on the bank of slot machines, if one player hits the jackpot then
everyone on the back of slots also wins. According to Ed Rogich, vice
president of marketing at International Game Technology in the Borgata in
Atlantic City, “we can’t install them fast enough.”
