Despite Protests, Slot Machines Open

For the Group CasinoFreePa, even though slot machines have been approved in Pennsylvania for the past two years the real issue have just cropped up. The anti-slot machines group just recently lost a petition to the court that asked the Attorney General Tom Corbett to delay the opening of the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, and any slot machines casino that attempts to open in the next couple of months. The group plans to prove that the slot machines do not comply with consumer protection laws.

A slot machine opponent, Dianne Berlin commented, "I have story after story after story of real people who would not have done the things they did, but gambling became very convenient for them. Convenience gambling is the worst gambling."

But the group protested the opening of the Mohegan Sun to no avail as the Attorney General did not step in and the casino opened as planned. The Mohegan Sun is the first to open it’s doors to business, but the CEO of the Mohegan Sun, Robert Soper, says that was never his intention. "It was never our goal - and frankly it was never that important to us - to open first, but certainly we are going to celebrate the fact."

The Mohegan Sun has a prime piece of land though considering all of the nearby natural activities that could attract patrons. Wilkes-Barre, home to Mohegan Sun, is nestled into the middle of a valley which makes it convenient to both ski trails and mountains.
