Pennsylvania legislature created what are known as the
slot machine middlemen—now however they see that these middlemen are an
excuse for corrupt politicians to exploit the system that was designed to
benefit Pennsylvania’s economy through more jobs and increased money coming
into the state as a result of the slot machine industry. These middlemen are
the go-between for the casinos and the slot machine distributors; the
problems started to crop up when politicians began to run these middlemen
companies. As a result of the subsequent scandal as voters and
Pennsylvanians got wind of what was happening, the state Senate has
officially voted to eliminate what was once deemed necessary to the slot
machine distribution process.
Now this doesn’t mean that those 18 companies currently doing business as
Pennsylvania slot machine middlemen are up the creek without a paddle. The
state Senate recognizes that the business will loose money as the slot
machine middlemen become optional for casinos and slot machine distributors.
To remedy this situation the Senate proposes that a $500 dollar tax be
affixed to each slot machine sold in the state—then that tax will de divided
to go to both the slot machine middlemen companies that will loose business
and slot machine addiction programs in the state.
The next step in the process of eliminating the slot machine middlemen is
approval in the state House. And currently the House leaders believe there
may be alternatives the plan the Senate outlines. To avoid some anticipate
lawsuits from the some of the 18 companies that may not qualify for a part
of the proposed slot machine tax, the House is looking at all of the
possible options.
