It seems that in the slot machine community there is
some confusion about what exactly determines a loose slot machine. As a slot
machine player it’s important to really understand why you cannot use hit
frequency alone to determine whether or not a slot machine has a high
payback percentage. And some slot machine players don’t get the concept that
no slot machine has a 100% payback, this means that in the long run, no
matter how loose the slot machine is, you will loose money.
So what exactly is the difference between long-term payback and hit
frequency on a regular slot machine? Basically to really determine a “loose”
slot machine the payback percentage should be around 99% or above. Many slot
machines operate at a payback percentage of 91% to 99%. The common
misconception occurs when slots players use solely the machine’s hit
frequency to determine whether it is “loose.” In some cases a slot machine
will have a lower hit frequency but still maintain a high long-term payback
by having less slot wins but more money won when the slot does hit.
Another consideration—you may think the slot machine is a loose slot however
there is no way to for the player to ever really determine the long-term
payout—and thus it may seem that the machine is loose but in the long,
long-term the slot machine will win the money back.
