Governor and First Lady Oppose Slots

The slot machine debate in Ohio rages on as Governor Taft and his wife show their anti-casino initiative through a road tour through a few large Ohio cities. The governor and his wife believe that bringing slot machines to Ohio racetracks and casinos will bring dangerous gambling addictions that aren’t worth the millions of dollars slot machine revenue would give toward college scholarships.

Stops on the Governors tour include addiction treatment centers in Cleveland, Dayton, and Columbus. Part of their tour’s goal is to increase awareness of dangerous gambling addiction—they are stressing the message that Ohio should not bring 3,500 slot machines into each of the seven proposed racetracks.

Joined by Senator Voinovich, the team spread their message fully aware that the proponents of bringing slot machines to racetracks, or the Ohio Learn and Earn campaign have a lot of money backing their campaign as well.
