The Slot Machine Answer Book

The Slot Machine Answer Book is almost 170 easy-to-read pages long. It is authored by John Grochowski, who is sometimes referred to as “Mr. Midwest Gaming”, and whose work regularly appears in such publications as Midwest Gaming and Travel, Southern Gaming and Destinations, and Slot Manager. He also writes a weekly syndicated column that can be seen in many newspapers and online. The bottom line: Mr. Grochowski knows his casino slots.

Written in the same simple fashion as his very popular, The Casino Answer Book, this book is divided into ten sections that cover everything from slot clubs and slots history to how slots work and how to identify certain machines.  It’s one of those books that you can read in an afternoon. The book format is setup so readers can hunt around and read whatever sections interest them.

The Slot Machine Answer Book was first published in 1999, and has now been released in a 2nd Edition.  Although containing the same essential information as the first book, the Second Edition has a load of updated information covering the changes that many slot machines have undergone within the last six years.

If you have ever wondered what machines are most likely to pay off, if there’s a way to gain an advantage over slot machines, or if playing video slots is better than playing reel slots, this book is for you.  Overall, the reader reviews on it have been excellent, although some headier strategists may not be satisfied.

If you already know a thing or two about slot machines, the first three chapters of the book may be a slight repetition for you.  However,  Grochowski does a fantastic job at mixing in bits of slots history and facts that most gamers do not know about.  Although it's not the information that will help you to win more money at slot machines, midway through the book, Grochowski gets to the nitty-gritty and reveals his broad knowledge about many of the slot machines in operation at casinos around the world, including information on what machines will most likely payout.  He also shares his valuable insight on how to narrow the Edge - a must for every serious slot gambler.  Although he is a genius when it comes to Midwest casinos and the Illinois riverboats, he does not shed much light on Indian casinos.

At the beginning of each chapter (ten total) there is a quiz section with answers to help readers absorb the most important information contained in the book.  With 200 questions total, you will definitely feel more knowledgeable when you are done reading.  Rather than just feel like you know a thing or two, you will feel like you can put your newfound knowledge to use...at the slot machines.

Grochowski is not one of those slots gamblers who up and decided to write a book about something they do day in and day out.  Although he has indeed played more slots than most of us can count, he has also had a behind-the-scenes look at how gaming executives and casinos do business.  His broad knowledge, fine writing skills and upbeat attitude make The Slot Machine Answer Book an easy and satisfying read.
