Bankroll Assessment & Betting Up and Down

If you know ahead of time that you will be playing the slot machines in the casino, it is always a good idea to assess the status of your bankroll prior to sitting down at the reels.  A good, general guideline that many slot players follow is that they will likely play a slot machine six times per minute, which amounts to 360 bets per hour.  If you multiply the stake of the machines (remember to count multiple paylines) by 360, this is how much you could possibly lose in an hour.

If you are comfortable with this amount - and can afford to lose that much in an hour - then by all means, consider playing those stakes at what you believe are the loosest slot machines.  However, keep in mind that you may want to gamble more than an hour.  If you need to stretch your bankroll out over a longer period of time, you should cut back on your stake amounts.  The bottom line is that you will spin the reels at least six times in a minute.  And if you think you can rely on your winnings to stretch you out longer, think again.  Although you will win some and lose some, it is never wise to rely on winnings playing any game in the casino.

If you decide to play non-progressive slot machines, you should consider playing with the up-and-down strategy.  Using this method of play, bettors periodically change their bet amounts, usually within a range of three coins.  For instance, a good up-and-down betting pattern would be to bet two coins, three coins, two coins, one coin and two coins.  By doing so, you are giving yourself a chance to hit more pay-lines with higher payouts, while not spening too much every bet.  On slot machines with bonus and free spin features, this strategy is most effective.
