Giving Slots a Bad Name in California

The illegal gambling scene in California has not been kind to slot machines.  With the latest gambling bust involving a large number of illegal slots, the general view on betting bucks in California is that slot machines are the evildoer's making it all happen.

The latest bust to go down involved eighty slot machines of Japanese origin, that were found at a business in South San Francisco under the name of Ace Casino Rentals.  Resulting from a three month investigation, the bust has resulted in a court date to husband and wife owners of Ace Casino Rentals, Larry and Connie Hegre, who are now facing charges of illegal possession of slot machines.

The Hegre's company is in the business of renting gambling services, such as casino game tables, dealers and gambling paraphernalia (aside from slot machines, which are deemed illegal in California).  Keeping within legal parameters, their website claims that all services involve the use of play money.  However, that does not appear to be the case considering the action they were getting on their slot machines.

Slot machine action is no foreign thing in California, where slot houses, poker rooms and Indian casinos abound.  And the illegal activity that has taken place under the radar of regulation has almost always involved illegal slot machines.  Even with the gambling business in California bringing in around $5 billion per year, the underground slot machine trade accounts for a large portion of money that is not accountable.

Every year, the Division of Gambling Control in California has reported at least one bust per year involving anywhere from one-hundred to three-hundred slot machines, which are primarily taken out of private homes or middle-men who sell them for both private use and illegal gaming rings.  The largest bust of illegal slot machines in California came last December, in which over 1,500 slot machines were wrangled up in Los Angeles County.

So it would seem that slot machines are the cause of all the gambling troubles in California; However, as always, it is the people trafficking and buying them who are bringing a bad name to slots.  As such, a word of caution is sent out to the people of California who love playing slots.  Only play slot machines at reputable gambling operations, especially Indian casinos.  No matter how great a payout percentage someone promises you, it is always safest to play at places you know are regulated and legal.
