Stand Alone Jackpot Slot Machines

Stand alone progressive slot machines operate differently than both wide-area and in-house progressives in that they are not linked or networked with any other machines.

You might be wondering how a slot machine can be progressive if it is not tapping into a community jackpot of sorts.  This is a good question because it also sheds light on why stand-along progressive jackpots are much smaller than both wide-area and in-house jackpots.

The way it works is that for every wager a player makes on their particular machine, a certain percentage of that wager is sanctioned into a stand-alone progressive jackpot.  All proceeds go towards hitting the highest winning/paying symbol combo on the machine, which the player will get in full if they hit.  Therefore, unlike progressive jackpots that are built from multiple machines, this jackpot stands on its own.  This is precisely why the max payout will be smaller than other progressive types; However, keep in mind that the odds of winning the max symbol combo (which still pays out very generously) are much higher.

While the front of the machine will display the amount of the growing jackpot each time you place a bet, it will vary somewhat from machine to machine since the jackpot is distributed in correspondence to one's betting stakes.  However, most all stand-along jackpot slot machines of the same denomination will award approximately the same amount for the top jackpot payout.
